They say “Every cloud has a silver lining” and after the almost total devastation of the iconic Restaurante El Pescador “Rancho La Cubana” during Tropical Storm Nate, they are proud to announce that they are reopen after a total rebuild. The restaurant looks fabulous and has an imposing presence on the beach road, just past the Eskimo and in front of the Hotel Alcazar. Open 10am to 10pm every day and specializing in seafood, meat and poultry dishes.
Aguamala (Aguamala meaning Jellyfish) is a new cocktail bar in the bottom of the El Torreón building opposite the beach front Eskimo ice cream shop. Billed as: “A place to cool down off the hot streets and beaches of Nicaragua”. Premium frozen cocktails (Slurpee or Slushie style); Margaritas, Pina Colada, Mojito, Sangria, Strawberry Daiquiri, Bloody Mary and more. Open Tuesday to Thursday from 2pm to 10pm, Friday & Saturday 2pm to 12pm and Sunday 2pm to 11pm. “Tell them Roof Dog sent you!”
Our friends at Easy Rent a Car (on the beach road in front of the beach volleyball area) now rent mountain bikes. The bikes are by “Trek” a world leader in mountain bike technology and the most technologically advanced bikes on the market. The bikes come complete with a crash helmet and water bottle and can be rented by the hour, half day or full day.
The sign still says Beach Club but it’s now the “Spanglish Beach Club”, the second floor bar next to Klaus’s La Carreta and opposite the Black Pearl (of Henry’s Iguana). Hours are: 4pm to 12 Midnight every day except Monday’s (closed). For the Christmas period, they plan to have a Pizza location downstairs. Spanglish Beach Club has a sister bar in Los Robles, Managua.
Meson Español is now reopen after renovations. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10:30am to 9:30pm. Tuesday closed. Friday and Saturday; 10:30am to 10pm and on Sunday 10:30 to 9pm. The authentic Spanish style Mesón Español serves traditional Spanish cuisine on the beachfront. The menu includes Tapas, Paellas, Seafood, Steaks and more.
Comedor El Marinero is now open on the back road out of town next to Mueblería Sanjuaneña. Serving typical Nicaraguan dishes (Comida Corriente) of beef, chicken and pork in traditional sauces.
The Managua based restaurant group SUMMER has expanded to San Juan del Sur and is located next to Josseline’s on the Beach Road opposite Casa Marinas. Famous for seafood dishes, this location will be open from 7:30 to 11pm.
