Greg Bond and Chris Wilson (two Canadians) are the new owners of the popular Rojo Loco beach bar in San Juan del Sur. Their hours will be 7am until 10pm every day and offer a 100 Córdoba breakfast before 10am (Perfect for after a beach walk). The ever popular “$1 Tacos” are on ALL DAY and you can enjoy $1 beer and $1 Rum Drinks during the 11am to 7pm Happy Hour. Cocktail lovers will like the 4pm – 7pm 2×1 cocktails.
EL CIELO RESTO LOUNGE
Another new Restaurant & Lounge is all set to open at weekends and can be found on the west side of the Biblioteca Movil (Library) and the south side of the Catholic church. This funky location features a pool and later they will be adding an authentic Argentinian grill (parrilla) for a traditional “Asado”. Opening hours this weekend 21st and 22nd of July 2018 are 9am-10p on Saturday and 12 Noon to 10pm on Sunday.
BARRIO CAFÉ & HOTEL – Is the latest temporary closure in San Juan del Sur due to the economic fallout from the civil unrest in Nicaragua. Barrio Café have been in business for 9 years however have decided to close their doors until the economy and tourist levels improve.
LAS FLORES- COMIDAS Y ANTOJITOS – Another casualty of the economic downturn is the permanent closure of this popular eatery across the street from Arena Caliente.
STATUTORY HOLIDAYS (FERIADOS)
According to the Labor Code, Nicaragua has nine mandatory national holidays with the right to a day of rest with pay (or double time if it’s worked). They are on the following dates:

- Easter Thursday
- Good Friday
- May 1st (International Workers’ Day)
- July 19th (Anniversary of the Nicaraguan Revolution)
- September 14th (Battle of San Jacinto)
- September 15th (Independence of Nicaragua)
- December 8th (Conception of Mary)
- December 25th (Christmas Day)
