Mosquito Abatement Program

La reducción de mosquitos

As part of the national plan to reduce the reported cases of Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) continues with the Mosquito Abatement and Fumigation Program.

The head of the fumigation brigade, Alejandro Peña, informed the population that as well as the fumigation and treatment of Pilas (concrete water storage), residents can play a big part themselves in identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites in and around their homes. The usual culprits being; “old tires, disposable food containers, empty bottles and buckets”.

Officials from the Department of Family, Community and Life are urging people to get behind this simple initiative to keep their houses and yards clean as well as allowing the health personnel and fumigation teams to enter the homes in order to carry out the preventive and control program.

It is important to point out that the fumigation actions must be complemented with the activities carried out by the citizens in their homes, neighborhoods and localities, such as the destruction of mosquito breeding sites and the implementation of sanitary hygienic measures.
