Last Friday 25th of May 2018, was the “soft” opening of a new business venture in “Downtown Marsella”. Bobby and Maria (from the San Juan del Sur San Juan del Sur Cervecería have teamed up with Josh and Mirna (Arte Sano) and created the Machete Market/Café on the road to Playa Marsella (just before the Marsella Valley Disk Golf Course).
The owners and staff were delighted with the attendance for the dinner which attracted friends and business associates from the entire San Juan del Sur area, answering the call to came out and try brick oven pizzas as well as salads, pasta and bruschetta. The enlarged space is plenty big enough for a big-crowd and accommodated all of the guests under cover as the evening rain reminded us of what season were in.
The location is the former home of Sergio’s “Pizza Night” in the jungle. The legend himself (sadly, no longer with us) has been honored with a styling black and white wall mural and he was talked about fondly as some guests related their memories of “Pizza Night” with Sergio.
As the name suggests, the owners are creating a market Market/Café theme. The market area (accessed through the café/restaurant) will have a small gourmet grocery selection and the café will serve coffee, fresh made breads and pastries as well as a small cafe menu.
Bobby Hottensen told us, “We will be doing some private “pop up” dinners at weekends which will feature guest chefs, more pizza nights and we are available for private events”. He added, “This will be a great way of fine tuning the concept before we open the cafe/market, which is still a few weeks away. It also enables us to gather some valuable input from the community on what they would like to see at the market and served in the cafe. We won’t be open to the public for a while yet until we finalize everything and work out the opening hours.”
