San Juan del Sur is the venue for the surfing and triathlon events of the XI Central American Sports Games. The local events will take place between December 14th and 17th starting with surfing at Playa Maderas on December 14th and 15th. Surfers from Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama will compete for gold medals in five categories as well as Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) a “first time sport” at these games. The SUP route is from the Bay of San Juan del Sur to Playa Majagual and back to San Juan del Sur, a distance of ten kilometers on the ocean. The triathlon will take place on the 16th and 17th with San Juan del Sur as the main venue. As well as the sporting events there will be recreational and cultural activities for the visitors and nationals. La Chocolata road north has been graded and prepped for the games at the beaches north.

The Barrio Planta Project – BPP invites you to celebrate their ninth anniversary at Dream Sea Surf Resort on La Chocolata. They will have unlimited rum punch and appetizers. Selina Maderas is now open – The former Casa Maderas (just before the hill on the way to Playa Maderas) was recently acquired by the Selina Group and has been re-modeled and re-branded. Selina Maderas is now open and guests can choose from any type of accommodation from camping through dormitory style rooms up to luxury individual rooms.
The concept brings together travelers by demographic but with varied spending habits and in this way fills a niche that wasn’t previously catered to. The first location Selina acquired was the famous Alhambra Hotel in the historic City of Granada.
Selina has reunited two former Pelican Eyes managers; Gabriel Holt (Regional Manager) and Martin Serra (Selina Maderas). Selina has a US $ 10 million budget for Nicaragua and aims to create 200 direct jobs as well as provide business to 300 people in the tour operator sector and associated businesses.
