Last week, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE by its acronym in Spanish) signed the first loan agreement for US $ 238 million for: the VII Road Improvement and Rehabilitation Program in Managua, Masaya, León, Estelí, Jinotega and the two Caribbean regions. Nicaragua will provide US $ 5 million dollars, for a total of 243 million.
Coastal Road Remains in the “Study” Stage
A second loan addressed the South Coastal Road only. It was for US $1.4 million, allocated to “pre-investment and design studies” of Phase I of the South Coastal Route (“Carretera Litoral Sur o La Costanera”) from the community of El Naranjo (Costa Rica Border) to Masachapa (on the coast in the Department of Managua).
This brings the total BCIE loans to US $ 850 million in the last 10 years for road infrastructure under the “National Human Development Plan” which strives to combat poverty in Nicaragua.
