In 2011, driven by his passion for sailing the seas and wanting to realize his ambition to start a business, Brandan Harper (together with Zach Meyer, two friends from America) developed “Nica Sail and Surf” in San Juan del Sur.
This company offers its client’s trips on board a catamaran sailboat equipped with everything needed to make that trip on the high seas a great experience. The sailboat is a Fountaine Pajot 1999 – Athena 38, renowned for its comfort and elegance. It was originally built with 4 double cabins and 2 individual cabins to sleep up to 10 people.
“This catamaran will take you to the end of the world, as long as there are ideal sailing conditions”, explained Juliette Declercq, the Administrative Manager of Nica Sail and Surf. She added that clients that take a trip enjoy an open bar, snacks, snorkeling and other activities all under the care of the professional staff.
“The purpose of the business is to offer a new kind of experience in San Juan del Sur, to allow tourists to enjoy their memories and share their love for the ocean and sailboats as they pass through this Tourist City”, emphasized Declercq.
Declercq explained that the offshore trips are carried out regularly in the afternoon, getting back to port at 6pm. The cost of the trip is US $80 per person and although they are based in San Juan del Sur, trips go to Playa Escameca and Playa Gigante among other areas of the local Pacific coast.
“One of the marketing strategies we have is that we give commission to the people of San Juan or the businesses that organize groups of clients. We also come up with special prices for those businesses”, said Juliette. She invites those interested in going out sailing to contact Nica Sail and Surf to check the availability for the size of their group.
